Dear Owners and Residents:
Please be advised that the building staff have noticed an increase in improper waste disposal in garbage chute and recycling. We respectfully ask all residents to follow these simple steps in order to prevent damage to building systems.
All large items, like metal trays, boards, coat hangers, hoses, filters, etc. should be brought down to the disposal bins
All recyclables must be sorted, broken down and deposited off in blue recycling bins
All waste must be bagged and sealed
No lose kitty little and/or any construction waste
No batteries, flammables, or chemicals
Many residents may not be aware that to clear a clogged chute system costs us between $500-$800 per incident. The units that have contributed to blockage will be charged back for each service call.
In addition, the chute system is equipped with sprinklers (fire fighting devices) and improperly disposed and loose waste, metallic objects, coat hangers, etc. can break and activate a sprinkler. An activated/broken sprinkler will trigger a building wide fire alarm, and will dispatch Toronto Fire to our building. This is not only taking Toronto Fire crew away from other real emergencies, but also costs the Corporation over $1,500 in penalties.
In addition, a broken sprinkler will cause extensive flooding to the building and such repairs will cost us in tens of thousands of dollars in damages to common elements and units.
Thanking you in advance for your anticipated cooperation and attention this matter. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
